Validation of a Teaching Effectiveness Assessment in Psychiatry Continuing Medical Education.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a new, validated measure of CME teaching effectiveness that could be used to improve psychiatry CME. In contrast to prior research in other medical specialties, CME teaching effectiveness scores were not associated with use of case-based or interactive presentations. This outcome suggests the need for distinctive considerations regarding psychiatry CME; a singular approach to CME teaching may not apply to all medical specialties. The Impact of Financial Disclosure on Attendee Assessment of Objectivity in Continuing Medical Education Programs in Psychiatry: A Randomized, Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The major limitation of this study was an overall low level of bias in the presentations, making it difficult to generalize these findings to less objective programs. The study did not address whether the process of disclosure had an impact on speakers' behavior. This study provides mixed support for higher levels of financial disclosure than are currently required for CME programs. PMID: 26017619 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Teaching a Systematic Approach for Transitioning Patients to College: An Interactive Continuing Medical Education Program.
DISCUSSION: The use of a workshop format is an effective strategy to engage practicing CAPs in learning about and implementing best practices to support the transition of their patients to college and into young adulthood. Comprehensive and proactive transition planning, facilitated by clinicians, should promote the wellness of college-bound patients and help to reduce the potential risks in the setting of an upcoming transition. Surgical technique for optimal outcomes
Sound surgical technique is necessary to achieve excellent surgical outcomes. Despite the fact that dermatologists perform more office-based cutaneous surgery than any other specialty, few dermatologists have opportunities for practical instruction to improve surgical technique after residency and fellowship. This 2-part continuing medical education article will address key principles of surgical technique at each step of cutaneous reconstruction. Part I reviews incising, excising, and undermining.

A review of teaching skills development programmes for medical students

Current Status of Nutrition Training in Graduate Medical Education From a Survey of Residency Program Directors: A Formal Nutrition Education Course Is Necessary.
Conclusions: Nutrition education in current graduate medical education is poor. Most programs lack the expertise or time commitment to teach a formal course but recognize the need to meet educational requirements. A broad-based, diverse universal program is needed for training in nutrition during residency. PMID: 25672985 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The use of social media to supplement resident medical education - the SMART-ME initiative.
CONCLUSION: Residents believe social media could be used for medical education. After we launched a Twitter page for medical education, there was a significant increase in the use and frequency of Twitter for resident medical education over the ensuing 6 months. Further research should be performed to see if social media can impact overall medical knowledge and patient care, and whether longer term use is maintained. PMID: 26750511 [PubMed - in process]
